Dr. Phillip Morrow, “Celebrating the Importance of Music in the Life of Symphonic Outdoor Drama Creator, Paul Green.”  Dr. Morrow will be joined by his wife, Susan Morrow who will sing from Green’s outdoor dramas.

Academic Papers on Paul Green

10-12 p.m. 204 Kivett Hall, Campbell University’s oldest building – 1903.  Papers will be presented by scholars:

• Dr. Gina Peterman – Greeting by Campbell University English Department Chair
• Dr. Laurence Avery – English Professor Emeritus (UNC-Chapel Hill) will introduce the scholars and conclude the morning by leading a public question and answer session.
• Dr. Margaret Bauer – East Carolina University English Department Rives Chair of Southern Literature and Editor of the North Carolina Literary Review
• Gina Caison – UC-Davis Ph.D. Candidate in English. Specializes in early and 19th century American and Native American Literature 
• Cecelia Moore – UNC-Chapel Hill Ph.D. Candidate in History. Dissertation: “The Federal Theatre Project and the Carolina Playmakers: Staging a Multi-Ethnic America in the New Deal”
• Dr. James W. Clark – North Carolina State University English Professor Emeritus and Paul Green Foundation President arranged the program.

Afternoon Activities on the Campbell Campus

All afternoon.  Bring a picnic lunch or have a bite to eat at Marshbanks Dining Hall.  Enjoy Family Fun at the Rumley Center where there will be many activities for children, including: Children’s Choir, Games, Skits, Art, Scottish Pipes and Drums, The Lost Colony Costumes “on parade,” and an Ice-Cream Social.

Paul Green’s play – The House of Connelly

2 p.m. Turner Auditorium in D. Rich Hall

Scenes from the play featuring actors: Kathy Williams (Playmakers, UNC-CH), Georgia Martin (Campbell actor/director), and other Campbell actors; film clips from the movie, Carolina based on the play; ECU English professor, Dr. Margaret Bauer, is leader for the event.

In honor of accomplished baseball pitcher, Paul Green, Harnett baseball and softball fans will enjoy watching local teams “batter up” around Harnett County – a “Fun for the Family” event.

A performance of scenes from Paul Green’s This Body the Earth. Dr. Dwaine Greene, Vice President and Provost, will greet the guests on behalf of the University.

Tickets: $7 adults; $3 students, faculty and seniors.

There will be a Festival Souvenir Guide that will include information about Harnett County, Paul Green, and a map locating Festival Activities and the places that were important to Green during his years prior to 1916 when he entered the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
